I’m Liz, and I’m an enthusiastic and curious home cook living in Brighton. I love browsing new recipes, and sometimes even cooking them. I’m more than a little geeky about gadgets and appliances great and small – I get almost as excited about a brilliant pepper pot as a shiny new oven. In my day job I’m an osteopath, so I’m also interested in the health side of food, in theory at least. In practice, I genuinely like quinoa and kale, but not to the exclusion of cheese, pies and Monster Munch. My kitchen is a broad church.

I’m lucky that I often have time to cook at the weekends, so some of my recipes here can be a bit involved or time-consuming – which is great if you enjoy cooking (and I’m assuming you do if you’ve found your way here) and have the time to indulge yourself in the kitchen. But like everyone else, I’m busy during the week, so there will be quick and easy weekday dinners and tasty lunchbox ideas too. I’m also keen on doing what actually works, so if a recipe has its cooking times or proportions a bit out I’ll adapt it, or at least bring it up for discussion.

And that brings me on to techniques and tips. There are lots of things I have learned over the years, some of which may be pretty basic, others may be more obscure. I sometimes see Mr T doing daft things in the kitchen, but better technique is only obvious once you know it – so I’ll be sharing some of these too (and hoping they’re not all stuff that absolutely everybody knew already!)

Did I say I liked a gadget? From potato peelers to fancy KitchenAid mixers, I love ’em – but some bits of kit are more useful, more essential and just more fun than others. I can’t see myself not writing about this! Other things – well cook books, chefs, restaurants, bits of useful information on nutrition are all likely to feature. At least that’s what I’m planning at the moment.
